Trialing my partner's makeup design.

Makeup Trial:

Annie's makeup design is very ambitious and is based on the character of Lettice Knollys, like mine. Her basic design idea is the red colour symbolises all the bad parts of her personality such as Promiscuity, sexuality, anger, jealousy. And the white parts of the face are to symbolise the good personality traits of her character such as maternal instinct, purity, cleanliness etc. I really like her design and how all the colours are seamlessly blended together to create a very dramatic and eye-catching design. I like the contemporary feel of the dark lip as well as the brushed up feral white eyebrows as this adds texture to the smooth and seamless colouring of the face.

  1. Using the supra colour palette i took the white colour and mixed it with illamasqua's skin base to create a face paint like consistency.
  2. I then used a flat foundation brush to apply this all over the face and into the hair line and blended this out with a kabuki brush.
  3. i then got a small flat shader brush and drew out the lines of the contour using the deep red colour in the supra palette without mixing this with the skin base.
  4. After this i went in with more of the red in places where the contour and shading on the design were the darkest.
  5. I then used a large, fluffy blending brush and blended all the makeup out to create the desired look taking the colour on to the ears also.
  6. I repeated steps 3 - 5 until there were darker and lighter shades of red mixed into the white supra colour and showed the blending and mixing of the two personality symbolisers.
  7. I then decided the contour was not as dark as i wanted it to be and so i mixed the dark red supra colour with a small amount of black to create a very dark red/ brown colour.
  8. I applied this to the places on the face where the shadows should be the darkest to create a chiseled and structured look to the face and blended this out again with a clean blending brush.
  9. I then used a thin, small lip brush and the black colour from the supra colour palette and lined and filled in the lips to create the colour idea from the design.
  10. After this i used a white mascara and ran three or four coats of this over the eyebrows, pushing the hairs in upward motions to create the desired effect of feral eyebrows.
  11. I then added three layers of mascara to the top and bottom lashes to create a long and spindly effect.
  12. We decided not to set the look with powder and it could smudge all the blending i had done previously.

Overall i really like this look and as a first attempt i am very happy with the application and general finish of the look. I know my partner was very pleased with the outcome of her design. When i first saw the design i was a little worried about all the blending involved and i was a little nervous and worried as to how i would pull it off. However with guidance from Annie i was able to create the look she wanted to her exact specifications and i am very proud of the outcome of this look. I want to practice the look one more time while also maybe testing out the idea of a white lip just to see how it changes the composition of her look. I have asked Annie what she thinks of this and she agrees that we can experiment with it to find what she thinks will work best.
