Practice of my own design:
This trial is the first i have done of my own design. I think I stuck to the initial plan well and created the look as best as I could. I like the way all the colour blends together and how the love heart shape creates a reflection of Queen Elizabeth and the lady's in waiting. The red, symbolises the seduction the Lettice Knollys, my lady in waiting would have used on the Earl of Essex and the heart resembles the hairstyles of the time as well as the love that Lettice feels for her 5 children. The eyes are red around the eyes to show the jealousy she feels of the Queen's power and the slits down the middle of the eyelid show that underneath she does have a glimmer of hope and purity. The red lip again represents seduction and sexuality while still being traditional.
I started off with the ombre lip, which i think went really well. I over drew my lip to create a fuller effect. However I feel the colour I used was too purple for my design.
I really like the nude line that runs through the centre of the eyelid as it breaks up all the red on the face and is clean cut and neat. The white eyebrows and eyelashes add the more traditional representation of Elizabethan hair and makeup.
I think my blending above the forehead could have been better and I will correct this in my next practice.
I think this design is quite different from any design I have seen before and I feel like the red blending really does suit my lady in waiting. I guess my design has developed to be quite avant guarde. However, I prefer this look to some of my earlier designs and I think the colouring of tis design is much more traditional than some of my other designs.
I am excited to show my partner this design as I think she will like it. However I am a little worried to see my partner's makeup artwork and the quality of the work she produces as I don't want my look to seem cakey or like a face paint, which is a risk when using this much colour on the face.
Things to improve on:
- Blending the edged of the design to be more seamless
- More coats of white mascara
- Change lip colour to a redder pigment
