White Bases.
Today I experimented with white bases to find the most realistic texture of makeup and style to match that of the Elizabethan era. I was put in group of three so volunteered to be a model for the different types of white based makeup products. The way the makeup was applied was in thirds on my face. On my fore head was the Illamasqua skin base. On the left side of my face was the Kryolan Aqua colour palette and on the right side of my face was the Kryolan Supra colour palette.
The Illamasqua skin base was applied with a flat foundation brush. It has quite high coverage to begin with and was quite easily blended. However it settles quite easily into the fine lines on the face and picks up every flaw. To prevent the settling of the makeup into the fine lines we used a buffing brush to blend out the makeup and make sure it was seamless. Upon doing this however the skin base seemed to loose its high coverage look, making it more translucent. That would mean that if this was used in application it would have to be layered and buffed into the skin each time which is very time consuming.
On the left side of the face the Kryolan aqua colour palette was used. This was also applied with a flat foundation brush. However this product dried very quickly on the face and set with a streaky and crumbled looking finish. Once dry it was hard to blend and wasn't very effective as a product to replicate the desired Elizabethan look as other products wouldn't sit very well on top of this.
For the right side of the face we used the Kryolan supra colour palette. The texture of this product was of very thick consistency and had a full coverage look on the skin. once buffed this product blended seamlessly with the other products and still kept its high coverage finish and didn't settle into fine lines on the face. We also applied this product with a flat foundation brush and blended out with a kabuki brush. I think this would be the chosen product I would choose when replicating an Elizabethan makeup look.
I think it is important that we experimented with the different products because then if there is any obstacles that could occur when creating this look, they can be planned and changed before the design needs to be completed. Which, in turn, results in more time for me to complete my look with products that I know in advance will work.
